The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has welcomed Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeenbek Kulubayev, to Ghana for a two-day official visit.
Mr Ablakwa received the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister at the Accra International Airport following an invitation extended to him for the visit.
The visit marks a historic milestone in Ghana-Kyrgyzstan relations, as Mr Kulubayev becomes the first Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan to undertake an official visit to Ghana.
It also follows Mr Ablakwa’s visit to Kyrgyzstan in March this year, making him the first Ghanaian Foreign Minister to visit the Central Asian country.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the two ministers are expected to use the visit to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen strategic collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the multilateral arena.
He also highlighted Mr Kulubayev’s support for the Ghana-led United Nations resolution declaring the transatlantic enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.
Mr Ablakwa further noted that Ghana supported Kyrgyzstan’s election to the United Nations Security Council this year.
The visit is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to deepen cooperation on shared international priorities and strengthen their partnership within the multilateral system.
Mr Ablakwa described the visit as historic and expressed optimism about expanding the frontiers of Ghana-Kyrgyzstan cooperation.
