The Minister for Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has led a handing over ceremony at the Kwadaso Agricultural College for the distribution of advanced digital farming equipment to five agricultural colleges across Ghana.
The initiative, implemented through a partnership between the World Food Programme (WFP), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, is aimed at strengthening digital and technology-driven agricultural education.
The beneficiary institutions are Kwadaso Agricultural College, Wenchi Agricultural College, Ejura Agricultural College, Damongo Agricultural College and Ohawu Agricultural College.
The equipment includes drones, soil testing devices and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors designed to support precision farming and data-driven decision-making.
The initiative is expected to enable students and instructors at the beneficiary institutions to gain practical experience with modern agricultural technologies as part of their training.
The integration of precision farming and digital tools into the curriculum is also expected to equip agricultural students with skills relevant to a technology-driven and productive agricultural sector.
According to the Ministry, the partnership forms part of efforts to modernise agricultural education and expose future agricultural professionals to technologies that can support more efficient and data-informed farming practices.
