The bail application filed by lawyers for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned to October 15, 2026.
The court deferred the matter after neither Chairman Wontumi nor members of his legal team appeared when the case was called.
Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai was present in court.
The application was filed by Chairman Wontumi’s lawyers seeking his release on bail while the criminal proceedings against him continue.
However, the absence of the accused and his legal representatives meant the court could not proceed with the hearing.
The adjournment also comes during the annual legal vacation, a period when regular court activities and the schedules of legal practitioners are reduced, although urgent matters may still be heard.
The bail application will therefore return before the court on October 15, when the parties are expected to appear for further proceedings.
Until then, Chairman Wontumi remains subject to the existing orders of the court.
