Gov’t maintains revocation of three Adamus Resources mining leases after review

The government has maintained its decision to revoke the Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases held by Adamus Resources Limited after an independent review of the company’s petition.

Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah confirmed the decision after receiving the final report of an Inter-Ministerial Committee set up to examine Adamus Resources’ challenge to the initial revocation.

The leases were withdrawn in April 2026 following investigations by the Minerals Commission, which identified what it described as repeated violations of Ghana’s mining regulations.

Among the concerns was the alleged transfer of parts of Adamus’ concessions to foreign nationals for mining without the necessary ministerial approval. The company was also accused of operating beyond approved boundaries and commencing activities without securing the required environmental and forestry clearances.

The review also questioned the company’s financial compliance. It identified US$2.56 million in outstanding mineral rights fees, GH¢86.8 million in unpaid royalties and GH¢290.5 million in tax arrears.

According to the findings, investigators also identified discrepancies in reported gold exports and traced US$224 million in transfers to related entities outside Ghana between 2020 and 2024. The company’s environmental bond commitments were also found to be only partially fulfilled.

The committee further raised concerns about Adamus Resources’ dealings with the Interim Management Committee overseeing the mine, accusing the company of withholding information and submitting misleading data.

Despite the confirmation of the revocation, Mr Buah said steps would be taken to prevent disruption to mining operations while government considers its next course of action.

He made the assurance during a visit to the mine with officials of the Ministry and the Minerals Commission, where they met workers and other stakeholders.

The Minister also disclosed plans to pursue the recovery of the company’s outstanding taxes, royalties and other financial obligations owed to the state.

The decision brings the review of Adamus Resources’ petition to an end.
