The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is set to commence another phase of demolition exercises next week targeting structures constructed on waterways at Laboma and Agbogbloshie.
The exercise forms part of intensified efforts by authorities to address persistent flooding in the capital following the devastating floods recorded on June 29.
According to REGSEC, the demolitions are aimed at removing obstructions along major water channels to improve drainage flow and reduce the risk of future flooding in vulnerable communities.
According to the Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, the latest action follows a series of interventions, including clean-up campaigns, desilting of drains and previous demolition exercises carried out after the June floods.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against building on waterways, describing such developments as a major contributor to flooding in Accra.
REGSEC is expected to work with relevant state agencies and security personnel during the exercise to ensure the removal of illegal structures and restore affected waterways.
