Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament Mahama Naser Toure, has officially filed her nomination to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary ticket ahead of the upcoming by-election in the constituency.
The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Hajia Amina Adam will compete against five other aspirants, including Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, and Dr. Yakubu Azindow, both of whom previously vied for the NDC nomination against the late MP.
Speaking on her decision to enter the race, Hajia Amina Adam said she was motivated by appeals from constituents urging her to carry forward the legacy and development work of her late husband. Supporters were present in large numbers during her official filing, reflecting strong enthusiasm for her candidacy.
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced that the Ayawaso East seat became vacant following the death of Mr. Toure, a fourth-term parliamentarian, who passed away at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a period of illness.
In accordance with constitutional requirements, a by-election has been scheduled to fill the vacancy.
Nominations for the NDC ticket will be accepted from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the Commission in North Ridge.
Nomination forms are available for download from the EC’s website starting Friday, January 16, 2026.
