Seven people have been killed and 21 others injured in a crash involving two vehicles on the Hwideim-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, involving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, GT-9931-09, and a Kia Picanto, BA-731-20.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Sprinter suffered a tyre burst while in motion, resulting in the driver losing control. The vehicle then somersaulted and collided with the Kia Picanto.
Personnel from the Hwideim District Fire Station responded to the scene and rescued the victims.
The injured were subsequently conveyed to St Elizabeth Hospital, Hwideim, for treatment.
The Ahafo Regional Commander, ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, later visited the hospital to check on those receiving treatment and “wished them a speedy recovery.”
The GNFS disclosed details of the crash in a Facebook post on Friday, September 11.
The incident has added to concerns over road safety, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
