Former Anyaa Sowutuom MP and key member of Bryan Acheampong’s campaign team, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make a decisive break from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership as the party prepares to elect its next flagbearer.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Dr. Adomako Kissi argued that the NPP risks remaining in opposition if it fails to chart a new course ahead of the 2028 elections.
He likened Dr. Bawumia to the biblical Jonah, implying that his leadership could drag the party down.
“It is not just about one individual. When it happened that Jonah had to be removed from the ship to save the ship, it happened, and it gets to a point that at some point in time, you need to remove any Jonah who is sinking the ship,” he remarked.
The former legislator suggested that the Vice President’s dwindling influence in Greater Accra is a sign that delegates must rethink their loyalty.
“In the last primaries, he underperformed in Greater Accra, and in Greater Accra, we won only two in the presidency out of the 34,” he said, claiming that the region’s enthusiasm now tilts toward Bryan Acheampong.
Dr. Adomako Kissi further called for a “radical change” to save the party in the 2028 elections.
