Salam Mustapha: NPP to protest on Sept 23 over ‘police intimidation’

The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its intention to stage a massive demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to protest what it describes as “state-sponsored intimidation” and harassment of its members by the Ghana Police Service.

The protest, which will begin at the Obra Spot in Accra and end at the Police Headquarters, is being organized in response to recent arrests and court actions against leading figures of the party.

National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, made the announcement in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.

He stated, “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”

The development comes on the back of the remand of Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who was ordered by an Accra Circuit Court to remain in police custody while investigations continue into charges of offensive conduct and publication of false news.

Abronye DC, first arrested on September 8, is expected to reappear in court on September 19. His continued detention has sparked outrage among sections of the party, with leaders accusing the police of targeting opposition figures.

The NPP Youth Wing has indicated that during the demonstration, it will petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what it claims are politically motivated arrests and harassment of party officials and sympathizers.
