Government has injected GHS80 million into the revival of the Anomabo Fisheries College in the Central Region, aiming to transform it into a national hub for aquaculture education after years of neglect.
The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, revealed during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 6, that the Ministry of Finance has issued a commencement warrant to fund the project’s completion, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
“Following a directive from the President, the Ministry has received a GHS 80 million Commencement Warrant from the Ministry of Finance to complete the Anomabo Fisheries College,” she said.
The college, initiated in 2011 under the NDC administration, saw construction stall under the previous government.
Now, the Mahama-led administration has prioritized its completion, branding it a critical step in advancing sustainable fishing practices and job creation in the coastal belt.
Once completed, the facility will house lecture halls, fish ponds, administrative blocks, and water infrastructure to support practical training for at least 300 students.
Minister Arthur assured that the long-abandoned college will become fully operational before the end of her tenure, adding that the President is committed to completing all viable projects abandoned by the former government.
The Ministry says it will continue updating the public on progress as contractors return to site and installations begin.
