Former Minister for Information, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has conceded defeat in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 National Executive elections, pledging his support to the newly elected vice chairmen.
Mr Abdul-Hamid, who contested for the position of First Vice National Chairman, said although his ambition was not realised, the interest of the party remained more important than his personal aspirations.
In a statement to party supporters on Sunday, October 4, 2026, he congratulated the three candidates who emerged victorious in the vice-chairmanship contest and wished them well in their new roles.
“My ambition to be Vice National Chairman of the party did not materialize. But the interest of the party supersedes my personal ambition,” he said.
Mr Abdul-Hamid said he had contested several elections throughout his political career, winning some and losing others.
“I have contested many elections in my life time. I have won some and lost some. Indeed, such is life. In life, you win some and lose some,” he said.
He described the experiences gained from both victories and defeats as important in shaping political leadership, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to participate in the contest.
Mr Abdul-Hamid assured the newly elected vice chairmen of his readiness to support them and the party, noting that he had remained committed to the NPP since 1992.
“I stand in readiness as I have done since 1992, to help them and by extension the party to realize its goals,” he said.
He called for unity within the NPP and expressed optimism that the party could rebuild and reposition itself ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“With unity of purpose, we shall win together and restore the golden era of the party,” he said.
Mr Abdul-Hamid further called on party members to re-strategise, rebuild and reorganise the NPP as it prepares for the next general elections.
“Together we shall re-strategize, rebuild and re-organize for 2028.
The battle to recover our nation begins from within,” he added.
He ended the statement with the party’s slogan, “Victoria Ascerta,” reaffirming his commitment to the NPP.
