The Ghana Police Service has deployed between 3,000 and 4,000 police officers to Kumasi to provide security and manage traffic during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference and national elections.
This was disclosed by NPP Organisation Committee Chairperson, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, who said the deployment covers the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the main election venue, as well as hostels accommodating delegates and other participants.
According to Mr. Karbo, the security arrangements are aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
“The IGP has been fantastic so far; his regional command has been cooperative with us, and they have worked hard to deploy about 3,000 to 4,000 police force to help us with security arrangements and traffic within the hostels and also the stadium,” he said.
He said preparations for the conference are advanced, with delegates arriving in Kumasi and settling into their designated hostels.
“We’re very much ready for tomorrow; you come around, you see the police and arrangements so far. I’m sure we’re ready; delegates are arriving at their hostels,” Mr. Karbo said.
He added that public address systems were being installed at the stadium, while security personnel had already been deployed around the venue.
Mr. Karbo also commended the various aspirants and delegates for their cooperation and urged all participants to conduct themselves responsibly to ensure a peaceful election.
The NPP is holding its National Delegates Conference and national elections today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
A total of 7,163 delegates are expected to participate in the election of nine national officers, including the National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser.
The National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director positions are also being contested.
