The aspiring independent parliamentary candidate for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Abraham Aidoo, has raised concerns about the working conditions of police officers at Katamanso and called for urgent government intervention.
Mr. Aidoo made the call after touring some public facilities in the constituency and subsequently speaking in an interview with this portal.
According to him, the Katamanso Police Command is operating in conditions that do not provide the conducive environment required for officers to effectively perform their duties.
He observed that the top floor of the police facility remains unplastered and has no toilet facility, while officers and commanders who work on that floor have to walk through dusty areas to access their offices.
Mr. Aidoo, a journalist by profession, said the situation was particularly worrying for officers stationed along the Katamanso road, who are exposed to dust from passing vehicles.
He said prolonged exposure to dust could pose health risks to the officers, stressing that police personnel, like every other worker, need a healthy and safe working environment.
“These are men and women with families, and they need to be healthy for their families and also be able to serve the community effectively,” he said.
Mr. Aidoo also expressed concern about the poor condition of roads within the constituency, saying the situation could undermine emergency response efforts by the police.
He noted that some roads are so badly deteriorated that even motorcycles could struggle to access certain areas, making it difficult for officers to respond quickly to emergencies.
The aspiring parliamentary candidate therefore appealed to the government and relevant authorities to take urgent steps to improve the facilities at the Katamanso Police Command and address the poor road network in the constituency.
He said improving the working environment and road infrastructure would help the police carry out their responsibilities more effectively and enhance their ability to protect and serve residents in the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency.
