The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has clarified reports surrounding an invitation extended to him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), insisting that he has never been the subject of an investigation by the anti-corruption agency.
According to the MP, it is SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, a company represented by his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, that is the subject of the EOCO investigation.
In a statement, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said EOCO, in a letter dated February 10, 2026, invited the then Senior Partner of the firm to appear at its head office in Accra on February 17 to assist with investigations.
He said that on February 18, after becoming a Member of Parliament, he responded to EOCO and informed the agency that he had referred the invitation to the Clerk to Parliament for advice.
The MP explained that following the development, a lawful representative of the law firm engaged with EOCO and participated in interrogations on three separate occasions.
He said the engagements took place on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026, during which the representative provided the information requested by the investigative body.
According to Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a formal written statement concerning the matter was subsequently submitted to EOCO on April 30.
He further stated that since the law firm’s representative cooperated with EOCO and provided the requested information and statement, there had been no further invitation from the investigative agency.
The Manhyia South MP’s clarification follows reports concerning an EOCO invitation and seeks to distinguish between an invitation issued to the law firm’s senior partner and an investigation involving a client represented by the firm.
