Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commissioned Ghana’s newly appointed High Commissioners and Ambassadors-Designate on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, urging them to promote the country’s interests and attract opportunities for national development.
The new envoys are expected to serve in Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger and Norway at a time of significant geopolitical shifts.
Addressing the diplomats, the Vice President urged them to become visible and effective advocates for Ghana, with particular focus on expanding opportunities in trade, investment, technology and education.
She stressed that their responsibilities extend beyond diplomatic relations, urging the envoys to prioritise the welfare of Ghanaians living in their respective countries of assignment.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said Ghanaian citizens abroad must be treated with dignity and engaged consistently, while being assured that Ghana’s diplomatic missions remain available to support them.
She further encouraged the envoys to build on Ghana’s existing bilateral relationships while identifying new areas of cooperation that could deliver tangible benefits to the Ghanaian people.
The Vice President assured the diplomats that government would provide the necessary support to enable them to succeed in their assignments.
She also urged them to adhere to the performance standards and key performance indicators introduced by President Mahama, stressing the importance of professionalism, integrity and a clear sense of purpose in their diplomatic duties.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the newly appointed envoys and expressed the hope that their tenures would strengthen Ghana’s international partnerships and create meaningful opportunities for the country and its citizens.
