Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, remains in prison custody despite being acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the Attorney-General has filed an application for a stay of execution and intends to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision at the Supreme Court.

He said the Chief Justice has granted permission for the Court of Appeal to sit during the legal vacation to hear the Attorney-General’s application, with proceedings scheduled for August 16.

The Attorney-General is seeking to suspend the effect of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, arguing that Tamakloe-Attionu could leave the country before the Supreme Court determines the State’s intended appeal.

The former MASLOC CEO was acquitted and discharged after the Court of Appeal overturned her 10-year prison sentence, ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

However, the filing of the stay of execution application means Tamakloe-Attionu will remain in custody until the Court of Appeal determines the Attorney-General’s request and the State proceeds with its intended appeal before the Supreme Court.
