Dr. Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, has announced an upcoming meeting between the NDC’s Election Directorate and key governance and political stakeholders to address what the party describes as a flawed voter register and weak IT systems of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Dr. Boamah revealed that the presentation will take place today, September 23, 2024, at the KAMA Conference Centre, starting at 4:00 PM.
According to the NDC, the event will provide a platform to highlight systemic issues with the voters’ register and the underlying technology employed by the Electoral Commission. The NDC argues that these weaknesses have significant implications for the credibility of the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The presentation, which will be led by Dr. Omane Boamah himself, is expected to attract a diverse audience, including civil society organizations (CSOs), religious leaders, labour unions, and media representatives. It will also be broadcast live on television, radio, and social media platforms to ensure a broad audience.
This meeting follows the NDC’s recent #EnoughIsEnough demonstration, where the party and its supporters demanded reforms in the electoral system, including a forensic audit of the voter registration process.
Dr. Boamah and the NDC’s Election Directorate are expected to outline the party’s concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter roll and failures in the EC’s IT infrastructure, which they claim compromise the accuracy and fairness of the elections.
