Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has called on Ghanaian musician Mzbel to provide further details regarding claims made in a viral social media video alleging that her relative died due to the unavailability of a hospital bed.
In a statement dated Tuesday July 7, the Hospital said it had taken the allegations seriously and had since made efforts to reach Mzbel and her family to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
According to the Hospital, it is seeking to determine “whether the deceased was referred to KBTH and denied admission upon arrival, or whether the patient had not yet been transferred to the Hospital and was advised to await the availability of a bed.”
The Hospital noted that it had so far been unable to engage the family directly and appealed to Mzbel to cooperate with investigations.
“Management is calling on Mzbel to provide the necessary information to enable us investigate the claims made in the video,” it stated.
Korle Bu further reiterated its commitment to complying with the government’s directive that no public hospital should reject emergency cases.
Management also highlighted its complaints channels, including the Hospital’s exchange lines, a dedicated complaints number and the online complaints portal available via the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital website.
The Hospital extended its condolences to the bereaved family and pledged to establish the facts surrounding the incident “in a fair, transparent and professional manner.”
