Residents of New Nkusukum in Mankessim, Central Region, were left in shock after a middle-aged pastor was discovered dead and decomposing in his room several days after his passing.
The deceased, reportedly in his 60s and known locally only as “Osofo,” was found under disturbing circumstances. His real identity and church affiliation remain unknown.
Speaking to Kasapa News, resident Brother Philip explained that the discovery came after his wife noticed a strong, unusual odour near the man’s room.
“My wife stepped out to hang clothes and noticed an unbearable stench, along with a swarm of houseflies around the room. She alerted me, and we rushed to check on the Osofo,” he said. “Upon entering, we found him lying lifeless and decomposed, suggesting he had died several days earlier.”
Some residents who gathered at the scene said the odour had become overwhelming even before anyone entered the room, indicating that the man had been dead for some time.
A neighbour described the deceased as an active and independent man who managed his own affairs, expressing shock over the incident.
Another noted that the man had recently mentioned a transfer to Kumasi, only for neighbours to later realize he had already passed away.
The Assembly Member for New Nkusukum Electoral Area, Hon. Sorlin, urged the community to look out for elderly residents living alone.
“Those who stay alone should keep company with someone to avoid such incidents again,” he advised.
The body has been sent to the mortuary for autopsy and preservation. The Mankessim Police Command is investigating the case; no arrests have been made.
